In July 2026, our lecture was given by Commander Bartosz Rutkowski (retired) who had founded the Eagle Watch Foundation (Orla Straz) to help victims of war. Bartosz was fed up with hearing that nothing could be done, and hence he started to help, initially by travelling alone to Iraq, and in time, he joined up with like-minded people. It was shocking to hear about the suffering, but moving to see the difference that the practical help makes. It simply changes lives.
We were reminded of the words in the Charter of the Sue Ryder Foundation, that “the work is a summons to seek out and face the reality of human suffering and to do something about it.” It was what Sue Ryder did and what
